Classroom phrases

Morning 5 - This describes our morning entry routine.  Each child is expected to (1) place their water on the orange tray, (2) place lunch boxes or lunch money in the blue bucket, (3) place their folder in my red bucket, (4) put backpacks away in their cubby, and lastly (5) put their bottom on the rug.  We use an outstretched hand to make a visual reminder of the five tasks that begin their day.

Environmental Print - All print a child encounters in daily life is environmental print.  Examples include food labels, company logos, and street signs.  Often children can recognize a grocery store sign, McDonalds logo, or cereal box and know what it means.  They are recognizing environmental print, and we capitalize on this prior knowledge as we begin the process of reading instruction.
